The Thief Comes To Steal, Kill and Destroy. Not Simply To Make You Sick

The thief comes….John 10:10 tells us this. The thief in John 10:10 is referring to our adversary, the devil. His ultimate objective as stated in the verse is to steal, kill, and destroy your life. Although he’ll try to use frustrations such as fender-benders, malfunctioning wiring in your home, and the occasional head cold to his advantage, the ultimate would have been killing you on the road, burn down your house (with you in it), and killing you with the flu.

If You Could See Into The Spirit Realm

the thief comes When I was a child, one of my favorite cartoons was Mr. Magoo. Mr. Magoo was this lovable bungling older gentleman who was severely visually impaired. In every episode, he would go on his adventures without having a clue how close he was to his own demise.

He might decide to ride his bike to town while commenting on how bumpy the road was, not knowing that he was on a train track with a speeding freight train approaching.

He might make a note to himself to pick up some salve at the market to soothe the dry skin on his feet and legs, not realizing that he was standing waist-deep in poison ivy.

And just as Mr. Magoo was about to fall off a 12 story building, be swept away by an ocean wave, or be eaten alive by alligators, something or someone would snatch him out of the jaws of death and he would continue on to the next misadventure, totally oblivious to what had just happened.

Because Mr. Magoo was blind, he couldn’t see the dangerous situations that awaited him around every corner. He just went about his jolly way totally clueless to the harmful things around him.

God’s Love Extended

Likewise with us. We face dangers every day that we are totally oblivious to. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy our lives daily. But God’s hand of protection is upon His children as well as those who don’t yet know Him as their Lord and Savior. If God decided to withdraw His presence from this world, the COVID19 pandemic that we’re currently facing would look like a minor inconvenience compared to what the state of this world would plunge into.

He Deserves The Glory

So the next time you get a cold and are over it in a matter of days, realize that the enemy’s ultimate goal was to kill you, not give you a cold. When you dodge out of traffic just in time to avoid getting hit by the driver that didn’t see you in the crosswalk, know that you didn’t make it across the intersection by chance. The next time you experience an “in the nick of time” moment, realize that the enemy came to steal, kill, and destroy but the Grace of God thwarted his efforts.
