Sympathy from friends when we’re going through the trials of life can be intoxicating. As humans, it feels good to be cared for. It feels good to be confirmed and acknowledged. But as perverted as it may seem, the good feeling of sympathy received can become more important to us than actively overcoming our situations through the Power of God. Don’t deprive others of your overcoming testimony because of your enjoyment of and your need to bask in the sympathy of friends.

Doing good can sometimes be boiled down to specific deeds. However, doing good can also become a lifestyle if we discipline ourselves to look for opportunities to do good. Jesus modeled this lifestyle when was here. The term “doing good” spans such a broad spectrum. There are many, many, MANY things that can fall under the title of “doing good” in your sphere of influence. Ask God to open your eyes to opportunities to do good and intentionally start living the “doing good” lifestyle.

Forgiving and Forgetting

Forgiving and forgetting seems to be a concept that some grapple with. Believe me, I understand. Some of us carry wounds so deep that we’ll struggle in pain for the rest of our lives. But we as Christians are on a journey to become more like Christ. Every day we walk the face of this earth we will lean upon the grace, mercy and forgiveness of God. How would it change our perspective and relationship with God if our sins were forgiven, but not forgotten? If having a loving Father who makes the choice daily to forgive and forget my sins, how can I, in good conscience turn around and tell you that I’ll forgive you, but I won’t forget what you did to me? Just a little food for thought.
