Reuniting with Loved Ones – What do you most look forward to in Heaven?
Reuniting with loved ones has shown me that time cannot break the bonds that have been established between people.
Reuniting With Loved Ones
I was fortunate enough to be invited to a retirement dinner of a dear friend and former co-worker of mine tonight. After 33 years of service, Clarence had finally decided to end this phase of his life and start out in a new direction which he so eloquently called “Autonomy”. It had been 24 years since I last saw Clarence and his wife Gloria.
[pullquote]What you are looking forward to most in heaven. Is it reuniting with loved ones? Is it asking Jesus a question that has perplexed you for years? Is it finding out what role you will have throughout eternity? [/pullquote]
In fact, I was the best man at their wedding back in 1988. In addition to seeing Clarence and Gloria again, I had the pleasure of reuniting with several other people whom I had worked with in the past. Although our bodies had changed, our spirits remained the same. As I sat there taking in all the faces from the past, I realized that time only has influence over physical things. Things that actually don’t matter in the grand scheme of things.
Conversations were had and memories were shared just as if we were back in our lunchroom in 1979. Time had not robbed us of the things that were the most precious to us. Without warning, my mind drifted off and I pictured what our feast in heaven with our soon coming King Jesus will be like. I pictured reuniting with my mother, father, grandmother, and other family members that are there now.
I pictured us talking and rejoicing together about events that have transpired in our lives without skipping a beat. Time that had passed between their departure and the time I got to see them again had no effect on the bonds that we established long before they went to heaven.
Heavenly Thoughts
I thought about meeting the great people that I communicate online with from all over the world. People whom I have never met in person. People I most likely will never meet until we sit down together at the feast in heaven to become even more acquainted with one another. But what I thought about more than anything else was the quality fellowship that I will have seated face to face with my Savior.
For years I’ve struggled with my thoughts, ideas, and opinions being rejected by man. I’ve struggled with thoughts of what I have to say not being important or relevant to others. In fact, a large part of why I started this blog was for reasons related to being able to freely get my thoughts, ideas, and opinions out without the concern of being cut off or rejected mid-sentence. Undivided attention is what I’ve craved for most of my life. What I look forward to most in heaven, and even at the wonderful feast that’s being prepared for us, is the ability to have my Savior’s undivided attention.
With all the millions of guests who will be in attendance on that day, somehow, someway He will be able to give me His undivided attention. I will be able to share with Him, just as I do now, even while enjoying the feast with my family, my friends, and with you.
What you are looking forward to most in heaven?
Now it’s your turn. What you are looking forward to most in heaven. Is it reuniting with family? Is it asking Jesus a question that has perplexed you for years? Is it finding out what role you will have throughout eternity? If you haven’t thought about it, there’s no better time than the present. Spend some quality moments dining on this food for thought….
