Waking up to an Angel – Starting the Day off with Gestures of Love

waking up

Waking up and getting your day started off on the right foot consistently can be tough. Some of us weren’t created “morning people”, so rising at the crack of dawn can be challenging at best for some of us. In this article I want to talk about one of the many small things I’ve found to be a positive in my marriage.

In fact, God just recently alerted me to this gesture which my wife has been doing daily for some time now, and let me know that it is the reason why I’ve been able to push through some very trying circumstances lately.

OK, so here it is….

For the past 3 months I have had the joy of waking up and having the very first words I hear be those of my wife whispering in my ear “I love you” accompanied by a kiss on the cheek.

Sometimes it’s not the huge marital issues that ruin a marriage or save a marriage. Most times it’s a series of small positive or negative things that either make or break a marriage.

You might say, “Well what great impact can that have on a marriage”. About 3 months ago, I would not have thought this simple gesture would be a big deal either.

Sometimes it’s not the huge marital issues that ruin a marriage or save a marriage. Most times it’s a series of small positive or negative things that either make or break a marriage.

After waking up every day to these affirming words from my wife for about 3 months now, I can say that it has had a tremendous effect on me.

My wife is my best friend. She is my cheerleader. She is closer to me than any other person on the face of the earth.

When I know she is in my corner, I feel like I can move mountains. Waking up to her unsolicited affirmation of love every day empowers me.

It lets me know that BEFORE I make the mistakes I will inevitably make today, she loves me. It reminds me of the love that God has for us all. He doesn’t love us because of who we are, He loves us in spite of who we are.

Waking up and hearing those simple words uttered by my wife lets me know that no matter what situation arises today, she will be with me through it.

So many times within the confines of marriage we get comfortable and we stop working at building the relationship.

Somehow we seem to feel that the feelings and emotions that were so strong in the beginning of our relationship will continue on their own without any ongoing help from us.

Comfort and complacency kill marriages. This simple morning gesture from my wife takes up 1 second of her time. However we are both experiencing amazing benefits from that 1 second daily investment of time.

Waking up on a Mission to Show Your Love

My wife makes the effort to make the first words out of her mouth and the first words I hear each day to be “I love you”.

Come up with something you can say or do for your spouse as a show of love first thing in the morning. Waking up to gestures of love from your wife or husband starts the day off right and will empower you to meet the challenges of the day.

Your gesture of love might be as simple as having a nice hot cup of coffee ready as they get out of the shower.

If you live in a cold climate, it might be to have the ice scraped off your wife’s windshield and her car warmed up and ready to go for her.

Maybe you can get up early and have a lunch made and ready for your spouse to grab as they head out the door.

What better way to start the day and provide a mental bookmark to help your spouse deal with the stresses of the day than to start the day with a gesture of love.

Mastering this gesture of love can go far toward restoring the fire that was lost in your marriage and building a marital bond that is stronger than ever.
