A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another. John 13:34-35.
The employees at our local market are extremely helpful. In fact, you can’t walk past any one of them without them asking you if they can help you find something. These store employees are easy to spot from a distance because they all wear white shirts, black pants and shoes with black tunics.
When we become Christians we are given a uniform to wear which should readily identify us and who we work for. As Christians we work for God and our uniform is love.
When we become Christians we are given a uniform to wear which should readily identify us and who we work for. As Christians we work for God and our uniform is love. Love should be the identifying characteristic in the life of all Christians. But let’s face it, not all of our brothers and sisters are easy to love. So how do you love unlovable people? God gave me an example of how to make loving people a little easier and I’d like to share it with you.
To love people, is to interact with them as if you were interacting with Jesus himself. Begin to love, honor and respect Christ in others, and not just the other person themselves. When I look at others, I try to treat them in the same way I would treat Jesus under the same circumstances. In this way, loving others becomes a little bit easier because I’m no longer loving them based upon how they treat me in return. I’m loving them regardless of how they treat me. This type of love sees past the faults and shortcomings of others and fulfills God’s commandment to love one another as He has loved us.
The Love of God Should Set us Apart
What we wear while at work is our form of identification. We all can readily identify Policemen, Firemen, Doctors, Military personnel, and Postal Workers by the uniforms they wear. When you leave your home, can the people who see you identify you as a Christian by your uniform of love? Begin to interact with others as if you were extending love to Jesus Himself and very soon those around you will begin to see the goodness of the God you work for.
