There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever — Mahatma Gandhi

Life is a Gift. Are You Satisfied with Your Gift?

life

Life is a precious gift from God. Are you satisfied with your gift? As parents, we take the time to give gifts to our children that they will enjoy. No parent purposely puts forth the effort to give their child a gift that they won’t be satisfied with.

I love watching movies. Movies provide an escape from our daily lives. They offer a peek into a fantasy world. Most of the time, this fantasy world that we spend approx. 90 minutes in is filled with action, adventure and intrigue.

We sit on the edge of our seats in the theater and cheer for the star of the film as the movie takes us to exotic destinations all over the world.

We get to drive the most expensive cars vicariously through the hero of the movie. We get to experience what it’s like to save the day as we escape our lives and become an active character in our brief visit to the fantasy movie world.

Some of us would love to have lives that were a little less monotonous and a little more exciting than the lives we have. I want to caution you not to confuse an eventful life with a satisfying life.

If you enjoy reading, books have the ability to take us even deeper into the realm of fantasy, describing in great detail places and events that most of us will never get to physically experience.

But when the movie is over and we leave the theater or put the book down, we are snapped back into the reality of our somewhat mundane lives.

Very few people live lives that include going to new places and meeting new people on a daily basis. And even those who do live such lives, rarely encounter pirate attacks, monstrous floods and earthquakes, and alien life forms as the characters in the movies we love to watch do.

Some of us would love to have lives that were a little less monotonous and a little more exciting than the lives we have. I want to caution you not to confuse an eventful life with a satisfying life.

An eventful life is one comparable to the lives of the characters we see portrayed in movies. It’s possible to live lives that are on “go” 24/7, but just because you have a lot going on in your life doesn’t necessarily make your life a satisfying one.

A satisfying life is one that sooths your soul. There doesn’t need to be a lot going on in your life in order for it to be satisfying. Satisfaction comes from living your life where and how God intended for you to live your life.

A Satisfying Life Scratches the Itch

Have you ever asked someone to scratch your back and the person scratched all around the itch but never hit the right spot? Do you remember how satisfying it felt when the person finally hit the right spot? That’s what true satisfaction feels like.

Living a satisfying life has nothing to do with earning a certain amount of money. Living a satisfying life has nothing to do with security in life.

How tragic it is to dedicate yourself to spending the time and expense it takes to obtain a position of wealth or power only to find that you’re just as unsatisfied as you were when you began your journey.

With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation…

No father wants his child to live a life that is unsatisfying. As a father, I want the best for my children. I want them to live joyous lives. I want them to fulfill their calling in life.

Our Heavenly Father wants the same for us. Jesus came to give us abundant life, not a miserable, unsatisfying existence.

I encourage you to spend time with your Heavenly Father and find out what He created you to do in this life. He has a definite purpose for you and within that purpose you will find the satisfaction that He promised you in Psalm 91:16
