Holy Spirit TV – The station that never sleeps. OK, I’ll admit it. My wife and I enjoy our fair share of reality TV. She has her favorites, I have mine and we have ours. Real or not, reality TV is simply a chance for us to take a peek into the lives of others. Last night, Sam and I shared a laugh at the thought of having our lives caught on videotape. Then we took the conversation a little further.
What if you found out that a few fellow church members decided to play a practical joke on you. This joke entailed placing hidden cameras in your home and videotaping your week’s activities. What if the purpose of the joke was to make a hilarious “Caught on Tape” video? What if the video was to be shown in church before the message this Sunday?
Would you be amused by this harmless prank? Or would you be completely embarrassed by your behavior outside of church? Most people are extremely self-conscious. If we were told that we were being videotaped, most would be extremely cautious about the words chosen and the actions taken in front of the camera. Why? Because most of us are sensitive to how we are perceived by others.
News Flash! Jesus is recording the footage of your life 24/7/365. Not only is He with you 24/7, He lives in you through His Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. In another place He said, low I am with you always, even until the end of the world. What if we were as God conscious as we are self-conscious?
Just as our behavior changes when we find out we’re being videotaped, knowing that the Holy Spirit lives in us should make showing His nature to the world easier.
The Holy Spirit Will Help You Keep Your Cool
Being God conscious is another term for what the bible calls “Walking in the Spirit.” Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16.
So what exactly is Walking in the Spirit? Walking in the Spirit is constantly living your life exhibiting the Fruit of the Holy Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23. Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are what are known as the Fruit of the Spirit.
Keeping these nine “Fruit” at the forefront of your mind is being God conscious. The trick is to remember that the God camera is on all the time.
I encourage you to make a conscious effort to walk in the Fruit of the Spirit daily. No one is perfect and you will fail. We all do. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep His character traits in mind. As you make the effort to walk in the Spirit you will notice that God’s nature within you will begin to emerge more and more. You will begin to look more like your Father. And when people begin to see Jesus Christ in you, it’s inevitable that you will have the opportunity to introduce them to your Father. That’s what living the Christian life is all about!
