Gods Word is the Blinder from the World’s Cares and Concerns

gods wordGods Word, when focused upon, produces freedom from cares and concerns. Life, for the Christian contains many distractions. We live in a day and age where information surrounds us in abundance. We are bombarded with all sorts of stimulation, some positive and some negative.

To live lives that are pleasing to God, we must put on blinders and focus in on Gods Word to the exclusion of most of the stimuli we encounter on a daily basis.

In the field of horseracing, many racehorse trainers believe that blinders keep a racehorse focused on what’s in front of him, encouraging him to pay attention to the race rather than distractions such as crowds.

In essence, if the horse can’t see it, it doesn’t exist therefore he can’t be distracted by it. As Christians, we too have our blinders on. Where we run into trouble sometimes is that we may be choosing to focus on the wrong things.

Are We Focused on things other than Gods Word?

Suppose you have your blinders on, but you’re focus is on your bills (which you can’t pay), your kids (which are failing in school), your car (which is on its last legs), and your health (which is getting worse by the day).

Your enemy hates freedom. Now that you’re free, guard your mind from cares and worries that will attempt to creep back into your mind. Replace those old cares and worries that used to occupy your mind with Gods Word. Gods Word must take over the space vacated by your worries.

You’re running your race and you have your blinders on, but you feel continuous doom and gloom because your focus is on everything accept Gods Word. God is in the grandstands as you run by but to you, He’s is the distraction. Because you have your blinders on, your problems are the only things you can see, therefore they are the only things that exist in your world.

It’s time we take a look at what we’re spending our time focusing on. If your problems are your main focus, cast those cares and concerns on God (1 Peter 5:7) and refocus, making Gods Word the only thing that you see.

Practical Application

Many have asked me how to practically cast your cares and worries on God. God gave me this simple illustration that I’d like to share with you.

Sit down at a table and write down all your cares, worries, concerns and stresses. Once completed, pray this prayer,

Lord I come to you knowing that you love me and that you are well able to take care of the things that I can’t take care of. I love you, I have faith in your Word but I also trust you. I’m freely casting these cares I have on you, as you instructed me to do in 1 Peter 5:7. I thank you for working out the things that concern me, not necessarily as I see fit, but according to your will.”

After you pray that prayer, crumple up the paper with your cares on it then toss it into the nearest waste paper basket. Now praise God that you are free from all your old cares and worries!

Beware of Creeping Cares

Your enemy hates freedom. Now that you’re free, guard your mind from cares and worries that will attempt to creep back into your mind. Replace those old cares and worries that used to occupy your mind with Gods Word. Gods Word must take over the space vacated by your worries.

You do this by counteracting mental attacks with Gods Word spoken out of your mouth. Ex: if a thought or concern about your safety tries to come against your mind, counter the attack with Psalm 34:7 – The angel of the Lord encamps around those the reverence Him to deliver them.

Speaking Gods Word out loud, under your breath is a form of meditating in the Word.

I encourage you to hand your cares and concerns over to God, grab the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, and fight off every attack that comes against your mind.

Meditate in Gods Word day and night and surely you will have good success! (Joshua 1:8)
