Fellowship with God: There’s No Place Like Home
Fellowship time away from the hustle and bustle of life is priceless. Our family is at the California State Games in San Diego, CA this weekend. This is our 3rd day here. San Diego is a beautiful city. After we arrived on Thursday evening we went over to Coronado Island and spent some time on the beach at sunset. Coronado was voted the #1 beach in America this year.
White sand, nice warm breezes, temperate climate, beautiful water…..it’s amazing here. We scored a great hotel room at a ridiculously low rate for this time of year. At the end of the day tomorrow, we will be back on the highway heading home AND I CAN’T WAIT! Isn’t it amazing that no matter where you go on vacation…no matter how great the accommodations are, and regardless of how delicious the food or how great the amenities are, there comes a point in your trip when you’re ready to go home. The saying from the Wizard of Oz classic, “There’s no place like home” really is true.
Just as we reach a point on our vacations when we get restless and look forward to returning home, when we stray from God our spirits, which came from God (who is the originator of life), long for a renewed fellowship with our Heavenly Father.
Well just as we reach a point on our vacations when we get restless and look forward to returning home, when we stray from God our spirits, which came from God (who is the originator of life), long for a renewed fellowship with our Heavenly Father. After I became a Christian and the “fire” cooled off, I strayed away from God. I didn’t stray as far as some, but I did begin to dabble in things that didn’t glorify Him. I can remember going weeks, months and even a couple years without praying, studying my bible or even making an effort to acknowledge the still small voice in my spirit that never left me. My spirit yearned for renewed fellowship with God, but I suppressed, made excuses and did everything I could to ignore the spiritual hunger that I had for renewed fellowship with God. My spirit wanted to be reunited with its source of life. There is no life outside of life with God.
Renewed Fellowship with God Brings Peace
If you’re estranged from God for whatever reason, I’d like to encourage you to return to the one who loves you and cares for you more than anyone will ever claim to love you. Christ does more than just sustain our lives….He IS our life (Colossians 3:4).
Pray this simple prayer with me…
Dear Heavenly Father, I’ve been away from you for some time now, but I’m ready to come home. Please forgive me for the broken fellowship and please forgive me for the sins that were committed while I was away. Thank you for leaving the door open for me. Thank you for accepting me back. I thank you for energizing me to do what I need to do to finish my race in this life strong. I love you Lord! Thank you for loving me. In Jesus name….
