Fear – The Most Unreasonable and Irrational Emotion of them all
Fear is a crippling force. Fear is the primary weapon that the devil uses to keep people trapped within their own minds. Fear makes no sense.
- An airliner full of Trans-Atlantic passengers experienced an extremely turbulent flight in which several people were injured, but God delivered the plane, all passengers and its crew safely to New York. Upon landing in New York, a news crew interviews a passenger on the flight. Thankful to have made it through the ordeal, the passenger vows to never fly again.
- An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rocks the Bay Area of Northern California. God safely deliver’s a family of 4 living in Dublin, CA. Fearing the next big quake, the family sells their home and relocates to Tulsa, OK. Where there are tornados.
- A car on a rollercoaster ride becomes detached from the rails and dangles 200 feet in midair for 90 minutes until emergency crews can rescue the stranded amusement park patrons. God delivers them all without a scratch. The stranded riders maintain that they won’t visit another amusement park.
- A cruise ship experiences a fire in the engine room in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico and loses power. Drifting for 2 days, the ship has to be rescued by tug boats and towed back to land. During this process, 2 women had to be rescued by the Coast Guard for medical reasons. There was no running water on board the ship and food resources became scarce, but God delivered them all. Upon reaching land, many passengers on the ship said that they would never cruise again.
For many years my mother refused to drive on the freeway. Mom said that the people who drive the freeways drive too fast and too recklessly. After a few years of driving on the city streets only, I broke the news to my mom that the people who drive too fast and too recklessly on the freeway, drive on the city streets in order to get to the freeway….
The world needs to see God moving in our lives in miraculous ways and more importantly, they need to hear about the trust we have in our God to deliver us out of harm’s way.
The Hand of God Unnoticed then, and Now
So many times we read the Old Testament and we marvel at how the people of that time could have so many miraculous things happen in their lives, yet refuse to believe that God was with them. Some of us have commented on how easy it would have been to believe God if we saw the Red Sea parted and all the other miraculous things that the people of the Old Testament experienced.
God is still a miracle working God. God’s miraculous power is at work all around us daily. But just as the people of the Old Testament could not see their deliverance as coming from God, sadly a lot of us don’t recognize the hand of God’s protection over our lives today.
Satan’s ultimate goal is to kill you. He wants to snuff out your life. If he can’t do that, he will attempt to cripple, or injure you in some way. And lastly, if God delivers you completely whole, he will try to steal your testimony and use fear to put you in a box and limit your witness.
Refuse to Make Fear a Part of Your Life
Don’t allow the devil to steal, kill or destroy in any area in your life. Be bold in your stand and refuse to fear living. The world needs to see God moving in our lives in miraculous ways and more importantly, they need to hear about the trust we have in our God to deliver us out of harm’s way. Don’t let your testimony be the one that says, “I’m afraid to fly, and I won’t board a ship. I don’t drive the freeways, and I changed locations because of my fear of earthquakes….but I love the Lord!”

Yes we should refuse to make fear a part of our lives, because fear is from the devil. I recall being fearful of flying. Then I thought, all of my children had been on an airplane. Now I was a grown woman being fearful. So I faced that fear and prayed about it before getting on the airplane. After my first flight, the fear was gone. I give God the glory. I would not have been able to do it without Him.
Praise God! What a bold step in facing your fears. Thanks for sharing Betty.
