Expectant Mothers Live in a Perpetual State of Faith
Expectant (definition) – Having or showing an excited feeling that something is about to happen, esp. something pleasant or interesting.
An expectant mother lives in a continuous state of excitement and anticipation of giving birth to a baby. I’ve heard it said that women who are pregnant have a certain glow about them. The whole process of having a baby is miraculous to say the least.
The expectant mother may have struggled for quite some time to get pregnant. Then upon receiving the good news from her Doctor, she returns home to share the good news with her husband.
The expectant mother takes care of herself by getting all the necessary nutrients in her diet and by getting the proper amount of sleep each night for the well-being of the baby growing inside her.
The expectant, mother attends parenting classes and makes several trips to the doctor during her pregnancy to make sure the baby is developing as it should in the womb.
The process of bringing a baby into the world parallels the process of receiving answered prayer. The key is acknowledging that the prayer warrior is “expectant”.
Because she is expectant, as the delivery day approaches the mother’s excitement level increases. Family and friends fly in from out of town to be near as the birth of the baby draws near.
The pains of labor arrive, signaling that the birth is not far off. Hours seem like days as the expectant mother is taken into the delivery room and in just a short time a new born enters the world. The process of seeing this new addition to the family began approx. 9 months earlier.
It took a lot of work, diligence, discomfort and patience to get to the point where this new baby could be seen and held, but everything the mother went through during the previous 9 months seems well worth it in order to receive this gift from God.
The process of bringing a baby into the world parallels the process of receiving answered prayer. The key is acknowledging that the prayer warrior is “expectant”.
The Expectant Prayer Warrior
Having a personal need or becoming aware of a need in someone else’s life, the prayer warrior spends time meditating in God’s Word. As the prayer warrior spends time in the Word of God concerning the prayer need, a clear vision begins to form and God’s Word becomes rooted and grounded on the inside of her, impregnating her.
Impregnated with the Word of God, the prayer warrior releases the power of God through prayer, according to Mark 11:23-24. At the end of her prayer, the prayer warrior acknowledges that she is expectant by giving thanks to God for the answer to her prayer without the need to see any evidence of answered prayer. The Word of God alone serves as evidence of her answered prayer according to 1 John 5:14-15.
The prayer warrior makes sure to consume a healthy diet of God’s Word daily during her pregnancy to remain strong until the birth of her prayer. When doubt, unbelief and situations arise to try to shake the prayer warrior’s expectancy of answered prayer, she fights those thoughts by speaking God’s Word over her pregnancy, bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
As the prayer warrior patiently awaits the birth of her prayer, she gains strength and resolve as opposed to discouragement, in anticipation of the answer to her prayer.
When the prayer warrior’s prayer is answered, there is a sense of calm. The answer to the prayer warrior’s prayer is somewhat anti-climactic, since the answered prayer is simply a confirmation of what she has seen on the inside for many days.
Once the answered prayer is born into the world and we are able to see and hold it, the prayer warrior now has a visible testimony that she can share with those around her to inspire them to become impregnated and give birth to their prayers as well.
I want to encourage you to take the time to become pregnant with God’s Word. Allow the Word to grow and take shape on the inside of you. Your journey down the road to answered prayer will serve as an inspiration to those who are struggling for practical solutions to the issues of life through prayer.
