Christian Life: The Original White Knuckle Thrill Ride

christian life

Christian life is an amazing, thrilling, white knuckle ride that should be enjoyed daily. To me, the Christian life is like spending the day at my favorite amusement park every single day.

But the great thing is, on the Christian life rollercoaster, no medicated heating rub is required to treat my sore back when I get off the ride.

No more Coasters

Sadly, my wife and I have reached the age in life where we’ve had to retire from riding rollercoasters.  Such a sad day it is.

I remember going to theme parks as a child and wondering why my parents would opt to rest on a bench underneath a tree while my brother and I enjoyed all the great rides.

Our whole Christian life is a thrilling ride in the dark and we have no way of knowing what direction the Christian life coaster will take us in from day to day.

Now I understand this mystery. Just recently, an attempt at enjoying a fun filled day at Six Flags left us racked with pain for the following week.

In fact, we are still trying to get rid of the subtle aroma if medicated heating rub that remains in our bedroom to this day.

All we have left are Rollercoaster memories

My favorite ride of all time is Space Mountain. Built in 1975, Space Mountain was the first indoor rollercoaster.

Space Mountain is a theme ride which presents itself as a rollercoaster ride through space. What sets Space Mountain apart from other coasters, aside from the fact that it’s an indoor coaster, is that you can’t see your hand in front of your face while on the ride.

The ride takes place in complete darkness. All you can see are lights resembling stars above you. In such dark conditions, you are unable to prepare for any curves or dips which lie ahead of you.

The element of surprise in what’s coming up next adds to the thrill and excitement of Space Mountain.

I liken Space Mountain to the Christian life. Each day that we awaken we experience people, situations and circumstances that we have no way of knowing about ahead of time.

We don’t know who we will have an opportunity to bless, nor do we know who will bless us. Good things will happen in our lives and bad things will happen in our lives on a daily basis.

Sometimes we may think we know that there is a sharp left turn coming up, but God changes things and takes us to the right instead of left like we were preparing for.

Our Christian Life is a Ride into the Unknown

Our whole Christian life is a thrilling ride in the dark and we have no way of knowing what direction the Christian life coaster will take us in from day to day.

And happily (for the Christian), one day our thrill ride will pull into the station. At that time the attendant will unlatch our seat belt and the ride will be over.

Just as we weren’t able to prepare for the curves and dips while on the Christian life coaster, we won’t know when our ride will come to an end until it’s over and we’re pulling into the station.

I encourage you to wake up each day with the excitement of a child going on an amazing thrill ride. Bless those who cross your path.

Minister God’s love whenever you have the opportunity to. Be open to the Spirit of God and allow Him to take you where He wants you to go in life.

Accept the fact that your Christian Life is a thrill ride that you have very little control over. And since you can’t see where you’re going from month to month, week to week, day to day or even from moment to moment, sit back and enjoy the ride knowing that God has your own personal rollercoaster course laid out perfectly for His purpose, even if you can’t see where He’s taking you.

I lived in Northern California until recently. In the city of Vallejo is a Six Flags Marine World that features not only animals, but amusement rides.
I will never forget an elderly senior citizen who was blind and somewhat disabled being helped into the front car of one of the fastest roller coasters in the park. My son and I shared incredulous looks at each other as they loaded her in. We questioned the judgement of the ride attendants.,
Off this lady went for what had to be the ride of her life. I remember thinking, when I get old, I want to be just like that..
While reading this article about the roller coaster life of the Christian, I am reminded of this day and affirm again that I don't want to live a safe life; a predictable life. I want to be all out for my faith, growing, and changing, and experiencing life; moving outside of my comfort and safety as I grow, relying soley on Christ and trusting him completely with all that I am..

Thanks so much for your comment. I agree wholeheartedly. Leave all that’s within you on the playing field. Go all out spiritually. We have a job to do. We can rest when we’re dead….
