Cheaters Never Prosper

Cheaters will never cross the finish line of life un-discovered. I listen to ESPN radio most of the time when I’m in the car. On ESPN, PED’s (Performance Enhancing Drugs) are once again the main topic of discussion in the sports world.

Now it seems that not only are the illegal drugs athletes are taking more potent, but they are more difficult for the governing bodies to detect. Athletes in all sports are bigger, stronger, and faster now than ever before and no one can give a definitive answer for this.

What has also come to the forefront is the ability of some of these athletes to look the public in the face and lie about their consumption of these illegal substances without batting an eye. On more than one occasion athletes have sworn in courts of law that no illegal substance have ever entered their bodies, only to be proven to be liars later on in their careers.

Just as there are cheaters in sports there are also cheaters within the church. The cheaters in the church are those who seem to portray that they are living the Christian lifestyle, but have secret sins that no one knows about.

The shame that these athletes place on themselves, their families, and their sport has extremely destructive consequences. Cheaters in the sports world are like roaches. For every one you see, you can bet there are thousands more that you can’t see.

Just as there are cheaters in sports there are also cheaters within the church. The cheaters in the church are those who seem to portray that they are living the Christian lifestyle, but have secret sins that no one knows about.

Cheaters in the church are those who display flashy lifestyles, and speak of all the material things God has blessed them with when in reality they are enjoying the fruits of ill-gotten gain.

Cheaters in the church are those who appear to be leaders, but are enjoying the pleasures of sexual sin right under their brothers and sisters noses.

Cheaters in the church, just as cheaters in sports have deceived themselves into thinking that they are going to get away with their deception.

Sadly, a lot of this kind of cheating behavior is taking place in the pulpit. Those who have been charged with leading the church are causing brothers and sisters to fall away from the faith by the observance of their hypocritical lifestyles.

Although cheaters may appear to be living prosperous lives, they have no peace. The life of a cheater is one of continuously looking over their shoulder. A cheating lifestyle requires one to always cover their tracks. There is no peace in the life of a cheater.

Cheaters can never change…NOT!

If you are living a life of deception, I exhort you to change your ways. There has never been, nor will there ever be a cheater who conned the system well enough that their ways of deception didn’t come to light.

Consider cashing your chips in now. Be willing to make things right with God and with those you may have affected by your deception. It’s never too late to change. We serve a God whose forgiveness will always be extended toward us.

Make things right in your heart and experience the peace of God which is impossible for you to experience while living your deceptive lifestyle.

There is a saying that goes, “There are only two things that are certain in life…death and taxes.” This is true, but this saying needs to be modified to read, “There are only three things that are certain in life….death, taxes, and the truth coming to light”. It’s only a matter of time….
